At the Small Business Development Center – Lynchburg Region, one of our most exciting annual projects is the partnership we have with Central Virginia Community College for students to build websites for a lucky few small businesses in our region. For several years, students in ITP 258 Systems Development Project, taught by Professor Corrine Hoisington, have worked in teams to create a website for local business. All of the design services are free of charge to the small business, but you may have to pay for hosting services or other fees from a service provider. Businesses participate as part of the learning community for students, and students get the hands-on experience of working with “clients”. Students and businesses meet to design and develop a website. Projects are finished by the first week in May.
For the 2026 project, five businesses will be chosen to work with the students. If you are interested in being a part of this project, support local students, and getting a great website out of it, please fill out this application form. The Small Business Development Center team will review the applications. Businesses accepted will be paired with a student team in February. In order to be eligible, your business must be located in the Lynchburg, Campbell, Bedford, Appomattox, or Amherst Counties. You will be asked to complete an intake form for the SBDC and meet with a professional business advisor at least one time prior to meeting with the student team. Businesses that are a great fit for the program either don’t have a site at all or have a site needs to be totally scrapped. Please contact skeener@lynchburgregion.com with any questions. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 4.
